"Divided Politics, Divided Nation:
Hyperconflict in the Trump Era" (forthcoming, Brookings
Press, March, 2019)
The United States is caught in a partisan hyperconflict
that divides politicians, communities, and even families.
Drawing on his personal story of growing up as a
fundamentalist Christian on a dairy farm in rural Ohio and
an academic working in the heart of the liberal
establishment, Darrell West analyzes the economic,
cultural, and political aspects of polarization. He uses
conversations with family members and friends, news
articles, public opinion data, and social media posts to
explain why liberals and conservatives are angry with each
other and how this is dangerous for America.
