Licht on Violet Independent Candidacy (posted September 26, 1999)

Interviewed today on WJAR-TV's "10 News Conference," Democratic U.S. Senatorial candidate Richard Licht said voters should wake up to the problems of an independent Senate bid by radio talk show host Arlene Violet: "I don't believe that as an independent running for a legislative body such as the United States Congress, you can do for the state of Rhode Island what a member of either party can do -- committee assignments, becoming a chairman, [and] bringing home important projects to the state."

Licht indicated he expects to raise $1.5 to $2 million for his primary bid and another $1 million in the general election if he wins the primary.
