Gore: The New Comeback Kid (posted February 17, 2000)

A new national survey conducted by CBS/New York Times reveals that Vice President Al Gore is the new comeback kid in American politics. Written off by experts and scoffed at by voters several months ago, Gore now is in a statistical dead heat with Texas Governor George W. Bush in the presidential general election. If the election were held today, 45 percent say they would vote for Bush, 44 percent indicate they would vote for Gore, and 11 percent were undecided. In November, Bush held a nine-point lead over Gore (50 to 41 percent).
